Following up last week’s post, for the second magazine layout, my idea was to be a bit more fanciful and colorful. Some time ago, I downloaded a bunch of great posters from NASA/JPL that were beautifully designed travel posters for celestial bodies in our solar system. From a design standpoint they are great, from an artistic standpoint, they are beautiful, and from a space nerd standpoint, they’re the type of thing that reminds one why they fell in love with the space program, outer space and science fiction in the first place.
I thought they might fit the type of text being delivered, so I utilized them to illustrate my layout. With two carefully selected typefaces, and the addition of several simple shapes that play into the illustration designs to create seamless callouts, I thought the results were rather fun. Take a look.
